Samurai Jeans was established in Osaka in 1998 based on the concept that jeans ultimately have no value unless the creator and wearer are united in their commitment. They strive to create fabrics with unique texture and atmosphere, pushing the envelope of what is possible with denim by paying close attention to the provenance of the cotton types they use, their characteristics, the shape of the threads they spin, while also striving to use traditional Japanese dyeing and weaving techniques rather than the more modern and generic methods found elsewhere. 18oz Samurai Cotton ‘kinari’ selvedge denim / Samurai Cotton slakes / iron sunrise buttons / copper coin–shaped rivets / exclusive flasher and leather patch / mid–rise regular straight
These ecru regular straight jeans are made with a mixed yarn containing Samurai’s own organic cotton, grown locally in Hyogo prefecture. This special yarn has a high twist, a stiff and slubby feel, and really exhibits the original texture of the Samurai Cotton due to the fact that we leave all the bits of leaf and stem in. To keep the naturally beautiful “kinari” look and feel intact, Samurai do not dye or bleach the yarn as would usually be done with white jeans. The threads are then woven slowly on an old shuttle loom to create this uniquely–heavy ecru denim with its perfectly slubby look and texture.
